Summer reading

A fun and motivating idea for getting your children to read over the summer is the Summer Reading Program through Barnes & Noble.

At Barnes & Noble they’ll give you up to two “Summer Reading” journals for each child in the summer. Your child needs to read 8 books for each journal.

Each time they finish a book, they write down the name of the book and author, and their favorite part of the story. Once they have completed a journal by reading 8 books, they take their completed journal to Barnes & Noble. Then they get to choose a book from a pre-selected group of books that Barnes & Noble lets the child pick from.

Since you can do this twice in the summer, it can keep your child motivated to read throughout July and August, and the practice over the summer will help them to keep up their skills that they’ll need in the Fall.
