Joy is such a powerful word. It seems to say so much more to me than happy or delighted. Joy is something you can feel, something you can give, and something that helps you to connect with others.

Recently, my husband and I were playing monopoly with one of our kids. Our child was clearly filled with joy while we played the game…he had the undivided attention of both of his parents, and he was expressing joy.

When I cuddle with or tickle my children I am both giving and receiving joy at the same time.

The Christmas story is literally filled with joy. Here is just one example:

“And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.'” Luke 2: 8-12

However, joy is not limited to Christmas time…it can be a part of the whole year…

How have you experienced joy this week?

How have you given joy this week?
