Seeing with the eyes and seeing with the heart

In a message I heard recently, the speaker said that “Jesus is the visible expression of our invisible God”.

I loved this explanation. In the old testament we can read about times when God explained how seeing Him with our own eyes would be too much for us. His glory would be so powerful it would overwhelm us.

Then He sent Jesus as a baby. Could He have chosen a less threatening way to send His Son? Here was a physical being, a human and yet God in the flesh…the visible expression of our invisible God.

What an amazing thing to ponder.

Then, in the new testament we have descriptions of Jesus all over the place! Words He spoke, places He lived, love He shared, the death He suffered, and finally Him defeating death.

Some of the descriptions of Jesus that first come to mind for me include Jesus touching others to heal them, building a fire on the beach, sitting down with His disciples, and being baptized in the river.

As Jesus was baptized, He was a visible expression of our invisible God.

As Jesus touched others and healed them, He was a visible expression of our invisible God.

And now, today, when Jesus lives in your heart, He is a visible expression of our invisible God.
