Am I up to this?

When I was in college, I studied in London, England for one semester. While there I went on a trip to North Wales with other students. While on our weekend trip, we signed up for rock climbing.

None of us had ever done this before, with the exception of course for our climbing instructors. As I looked up the rock wall I was about to climb, I remember thinking, “Am I up to this?”

In my last post, I listed questions that we might ask ourselves when we understand God’s purpose for us. Two of those questions are:

“Am I up to this?” and

“Can I do what I’m being asked?”

I did make it up that rock climb, and I got back down safely. It was exhilarating and frightening at the same time. I even have pictures to prove that I did it!

So how does God help us to make the climb?

First, He knows our limits…

1 Corinthians 10:13 says: “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation He will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”

Second, He knows our fears…

Deuteronomy 31:8 says: “The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

Third, He will be your strength…

Exodus 15:2a: “The Lord is my strength and my song; He has become my salvation.”
