The Job weed

Connecting very much to the Money weed and the Busyness weed is the Job weed.

For example, if you love money a lot, and therefore work a lot of hours with the main purpose of making a lot of money, than the job weed and money weed are both working together to distract you from your relationship with God.

Or, if you are so busy making money and then having fun spending your money, the busyness weed connects to your job weed.

But a job can be a distraction from your relationship with God in other ways too.

For example, do you feel like your purpose comes from God, or do you feel like your purpose comes from your job? When we work so much that we have no time for God, we have let the Job weed into our life garden.

When we serve our work more than God, our job becomes an idol that distracts us.

In 1 Samuel 12:21, we are told: “Do not turn away after useless idols. They can do you no good, nor can they rescue you, because they are useless.”

And in Exodus 20:3, God tells us the first of the Ten Commandments, “You shall have no other gods before Me.”

Am I saying that having a job is bad? Of course not!

Work is good…when it is done to honor God.

In your work, you can honor God with your actions, prayers, decisions, and worship.

The job weed only takes over when we allow our job to be more important to us than our Lord.
