A Great Love

There are often times when my children make mistakes. They might hurt someone, tell a lie, or do some other act that is unkind. They might even say something to hurt me.

And yet, I love them anyway. I love them even on the days when we are not getting along so well, and I love them even on the days when they don’t act kind.

Knowing this as a parent, it makes so much more sense to me why God even loves me when I mess up.

“See how great a love the Father has bestowed upon you, that we should be called the children of God.” 1 John 3:1

God loves us even when we are unkind, even when hurt others or lie. He even goes beyond that and desires a relationship with us. He wants you to know Him! He even wants you to be called His child. Even when we mess up, He wants us, He forgives us, and He loves us.

“Mom, do you love me when I’m in time out?” my son asked once.

“Yes, I always love you,” I answered.

So what if we ask God the same kind of question.

“God, do you love me when I’m a mess?” we ask.

Our answer:

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

and

“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
