The blessing of light

Have you ever laid awake at night worrying about something, tossing and turning in restlessness as you spend time in the dark thinking over the bothersome issue? Then, when you wake up and it is light outside, does the same thing that was on your mind the night before now seem less foreboding?

I can remember times I’ve awoken the next morning and realized that the problem I had on my mind was not nearly as difficult as I had imagined it the night before. The light of day brings a new perspective, a new way of looking at the issue.

Light is mentioned many times in the bible. In Matthew 5:16 we learn about how as believers we can be a light for others. And in Isaiah 60:19 we are told that the Lord will be our everlasting light.

As we come closer to Christmas, I am thankful for the blessing of light in so many ways, but most of all in the way of the child in the manger.
