Talk about love, love, love

“So, what does love mean anyway?” I’ve heard others say.

This is the kind of question that often comes from pain, or confusion, or anger about a lost love. In 1 Corinthians we’re given some insight into this question.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7  Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.  Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

What strikes me most about these verses is that the description of love given here focuses on how the giver of love behaves. It doesn’t focus on the number one focus in our culture…the “me“; the “What’s in if for me?” focus.

What does love mean? The answer is old, but reliable…the answer comes in God’s message to us in 1 Corinthians.

What other verses tell you about love?
