Most important name of all

I have a dear friend who is due to have a baby soon. I was just thinking about this amazing blessing in her life and I wondered if she was considering baby names yet.

I remember looking up what names meant when I had babies on the way. When you are picking a name for a child, you often consider what a name signifies. One name might give the impression of strength, while another may signify beauty. Some names are from family names and other’s are so unique that it might be new to all who hear it.

But the most important name of all is not the name we give our child, but the name we teach our children about: Jesus.

In Acts 4:8-12 , we are told,

“Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, ‘Rulers of the people and elders, if we are being examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed, let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by him this man is standing before you well. This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.’ ”

Jesus…the Name above all names, is the most important name of all.
