God gave us gifts so that we can share them

Today’s post is part of a series on “How we can use God’s gifts”. This series is meant to be a reminder and a celebration of different people using their unique gifts for God’s glory.

The guest writer for today’s blog post is Anne McCune.

What gift that God gave you have you had the opportunity to use to serve Him and/or others?Hospitality

How does it make you feel when you get to use your gift?
Excited and energized to serve the people God brings our way.

What are some examples of ways you’ve been able to use this gift?
We have hosted hundreds of people in our home:  for a few hours like family gatherings, small groups, and ministry events, to overnights with people from all over the world, to weeklong stays, several month long stays and year long stays with the people sent our way.

Is there a Bible verse that comes to mind when you think about the gifts God gave you?
Hebrews 13:2
Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.
1 Peter 4:9
Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.

What ideas can you share for how others can use gifts like yours?
Hospitality means opening your door and welcoming people in.  It doesn’t mean picture perfect entertaining.  I have heard from many “guests” in my house one of the things they love best is my messy desk.  They feel more comfortable knowing that I am far from perfect!  I welcome them in without any pretense of having it all together.  People need to know they are wanted and received with joy into our home and hearts.

Any final thoughts on using our gifts to honor God and to serve others?
God has given us gifts so that we can share them with His people and His world.  They are never to keep to ourselves and bring us personal glory.  If God has given you something including material possessions or talents and skills (and He has given all of us many things!) pray about how to share and use them so that His Kingdom comes and His will is done.
